A Trio Featuring a Legendary Rhythm Section and a Rising Saxophonist: The Ultimate Stage Where Destruction and Creation Intersect
The Messthetics, featuring the formidable rhythm section of Joe Lally (bass) and Brendan Canty (drums) from legendary Washington, D.C. post-hardcore band Fugazi, alongside guitarist Anthony Pirog, join forces with James Brandon Lewis, the acclaimed rising jazz saxophonist who made a stunning Japanese debut at Cotton Club last year, for a highly anticipated Japan tour. The collaboration began in 2019, when Pirog invited Lewis, a longtime friend and collaborator, to perform with the trio. Their soulful saxophone and punk spirit resonated powerfully, leading to the release of their debut album on Impulse! in 2024. After performing approximately 150 shows together, they followed it with their second album, Deface the Currency, which also garnered widespread attention. Experience the explosive interplay, spontaneous improvisation, and meticulously crafted performances of these four extraordinary musicians as destruction and creation collide on stage.
