DREAM THEATER

In 1985, John Petrucci (guitar), John Myung (bass), and Mike Portnoy (drums), all of whom were attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, joined Kevin Moore (keyboards) to form the band (later renamed Majesty). They debuted in 1989 with the album "When Dream And Day Unite" (vocals: Charlie Dominici). In 1991, they signed with ATCO/Warner and added second vocalist James LaBrie. In 1992, they released their second album, "Images And Words," and the hit "Pull Me Under" made them a household name worldwide. In 1994, they released their third album, "Awake," and Kevin Moore (keyboards) left the band, replaced by Derek Sherinian. In 1997, they released their fourth album, "Falling Into Infinity." In 1999, Derek (keyboards) left the band and Jordan Rudess joined. That same year, they released their fifth album, Metropolis Pt.2: Scenes From A Memory, their first concept album.

In 2002, they released their sixth album, Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence, and in 2003, their seventh album, Train Of Thought. In 2004, they performed at the Budokan for the first time, and released the CD/DVD Live At Budokan that same year. Their contract with Atlantic/Warner ended with the release of their eighth album, Octavarium, in 2005, and they moved to Roadrunner (now a Warner subsidiary). In 2007, they released their ninth album, Systematic Chaos, and in 2009, their tenth album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings. The following year, they performed at SUMMER SONIC 10, their first festival appearance in Japan. In September of the same year, Mike Portnoy, a founding member and leader who was also a top drummer (ranked 8th in Rolling Stone magazine's 2010 list of the 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time), left the band. They were succeeded by Mike Mangini (Extreme, Steve Vai, etc.), known as the "world's fastest drummer," and released their 11th album, "A Dramatic Turn Of Events," in 2011, and their 12th album, "Dream Theater," in 2013. The following year, they visited Japan for "LOUD PARK 14." In 2016, they released their epic 2-disc concept album, their 13th album, "The Astonishing." The following year, they visited Japan for a complete reproduction tour of their classic second album, "Images And Words."
In 2019, they moved to Inside Out Music/Sony Music and released their 14th album, "Distance Over Time." In 2020, they released "Distant Memories - Live in London," a live album capturing the London performance from that tour. The official bootleg series, "Lost Not Forgotten Archives," began releasing in June 2021 (21 titles released as of January 2025). In October 2021, they released their 15th album, "A View From The Top Of The World," and their first single, "The Alien," won the Best Metal Performance award at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022 (the band's first Grammy win). In August of the same year, they headlined DOWNLOAD JAPAN 2022, and in April 2023, they toured Japan for the second year in a row. In October of the same year, they announced the return of Mike Portnoy (drums). In February 2025, they released their 16th album, "Parasomnia."
