Welcome to Club Ruby, an engaging musical collective that unites Club Members of all ages through their love for juicy indie rock/pop punk tunes with a hidden theatrical twist. Club Ruby has already begun creating a name for themselves: their NZ On Air-funded single "Heartbreak Overtime" reached #5 on the NZ Hot New Singles chart in 2025, their music-video game was released on Steam for their debut EP Was God Birthed!? and finally playing the Grey Lynn Park festival in 2024 and headlining the 2025 Lunar New Years Festival. They’ve received coverage on outlets such as RNZ, VietQMedia, TAHI FM, NZ Musician, and most recently, NZMusician Magazine’s 2025 Dec/Jan 2026 print issue. The Club Ruby committee connects with audiences that may have been through the gutter but are trying their best to heal — and have fun while they’re at it. A voice for the closet theatre kids, basement DnD dwellers, and video game nerds, Club Ruby’s music serves as the soundtrack to fulfill your nostalgic main-character dreams.

“Heartbreak Overtime” debuted at #5 on Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles Chart, cementing Club Ruby as “Ones To Watch”. The four-piece of Jade Lewis (lead vocals), Hon Manawangphiphat (bassist), Sophie Gibson (second vocals), Jonathan Meyer (guitarist) and Josh Johnston (drummer) have appeared across NZ student radio, on TAHI FM's podcast, Hype Medium and JUICETV, and even internationally on VietQMedia via their Pho-Resh Friday playlist. Across to the United States, they also caught the eye of TicketFairy, who relished in the song's "crashing drums", "fierce vocals", "edgy electric guitar chords" and "rumbling bass" that "yanks...to shape a gritty punk-rock melody." Club Ruby debuted “Komorebi” live at Rat World Magazine's Issue Eight launch for which they feature in print. All of these milestones helped them garner NZ On Air Single Funding once more for “What My Bones Know” — out January 16th, 2025.
Club Ruby performed extensively in 2025, including for Leigh Apparently's BIG FAN show, a Silo Theatre gig for DocEdge's Immersive Wrap Party, Rat World's Launch, NiceGoblin HQ's 7th Anniversary, Auckland Zine Fest beside Phoebe Rings and Clementine and for Hans Pucket at Whammy Bar.
Club Ruby were recently awarded $35,000 Creative Project funding by the Asian Artists’ Fund to develop their musical work Rebel Radio—a dystopian live stage show inspired by the broadcasting defiance of Radio Hauraki in 1965.
