The years 1988-1989 were some changing years in the Swedish music scene. The old Thrash scene slowly died, while new Death Metal bands appeared everywhere. However, one musical direction also appeared a bit on the edge: Dark Death Metal. Some good examples are Treblinka and Grotesque. Slower Death Metal, still some hints of darker Thrash bands as well as a more occult styled lyrical approach. However, there is a third completely unknown band called Curse, which was even superior to the two mentioned bands.
Curse from the godforsaken towns called Spånga and Rinkeby (suburbs north of Stockholm) combined Mefisto/Obscurity styled Thrash Metal, mixing it with Grotesque-styled keyboards and a vocalist that was similar to the young Karlen from Merciless. They even incorporated some female vocals in a song, which appeared all of a sudden like the ones in Circle Of The Tyrants from Celtic Frost (Infernal Fate). Even some small hints of Bathory-riffing are existent (Theme Underground). And the sound is better than the first Sunlight studio demos (like the Treblinka demo or Morbid demo ones).
This second demo called "Integumentum De Tenebrae" is a masterpiece of the Dark Death Metal style, and I consider it as one of the best demos which were released in Sweden ever. None of the 4 songs (plus Intro and instrumental Outro) has any low-points, all of them are perfect examples of a ferocious demo band that should have been signed instantly. But neither do I know why this hasn't happened, nor what happened with the band after this demo. In the my heap of zines I also didn't find any interview with them. Very mysterious and totally forgotten band indeed.
